How did becoming a Mommy change your life?

When I got pregnant, my husband and I were at the tail end of spending a year in France. Living in France for a year had been my dream for so long. I remember walking around our Paris apartment and thinking, "Now what? I'll have to come up with a new dream." A few weeks later, I discovered I was pregnant. I like to think of Flora as the dream that was bigger even than Paris, so big and so great I couldn't have even imagined her.

What is your biggest pleasure about being a Mommy?

For me, it's seeing my husband in Flora and realizing that I chose not only a great husband, but a great Dad for my daughter.

What is your favorite thing to do with your little one/s?

As a children's book author, my greatest pleasure is reading to her, rediscovering old favorites and finding new ones. Right now, we are both crazy about Grace for president. The funny thing is I'm too shy to read her my books!

What is your favorite time of the day with your child/children?

I love putting her down at the end of the day and when she falls asleep in my arms.

If you were asked about the best advice you received about being a Mommy, what would it be?

I think the best advice I ever received is that good enough is really good enough. Perfectionism isn't the name of the game.

What would be your best advice to pass along to other Mommies or Mommies to Be?

My best advice is to ask for help, more than once if you have to, and accept help whenever and however it's offered.

What do you find most challenging about being a Mommy?

I work at home so the line between work and motherhood is constantly blurring.

Any product that you would say is a “Must Have” for you and your baby?

I really love California Baby products. Flora and I both take frequent baths in their "Overtired and Cranky" bubble bath.

What is your guilty pleasure?

My guilty pleasure is private yoga classes in my house. I close the door for an hour and it's all about me.

What has been your favorite Mommies Dish event?

My favorite Mommies Dish event was Grandparent's Day. I couldn't do all that I do -- writing, sitting on boards and comittees, volunteer work -- without my mother-in-law, who takes care of Flora three days a week, so it was a pleasure to honor her!
